Manchester-based young fella Kalli has been in the radar for quite a long time now, and his work has been supported by many DJs from the Techno scene such as Clouds, Peverelist, Loefah, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Klose One and Mushy to name a few. After experimenting around age 15 with production in the Soul and Hip-Hop genres, he discovered himself a love for darker music and started creating Techno with semi-House influences. Acid House and club atmospheres played a great role in shaping his singular style. While all his productions have his distinctive signature, he tries to make every record different from the previous ones, currently aiming at darker sounds and “climbing up to space nebu- las”. Micrograms EP’s story sets in a warehouse, deeply soaked in shadowy pads for emotion but still guided by the need to rave. “No Morphine” opens up on a deep kick quickly joined by a piercing acid line and clear pads. Hitting snares intersperse the dark but melodic piece giving it this distinct warehouse feel, joined later on by murky pads. “Paradox Gesture” sets a different mood, triplet drum hits sustain a sinister booming bassline. Distorted vocals and synth lines finish off establishing the cryptic atmosphere of this Techno banger. “Bodypop Sinewave” is straight up 4/4 in an industrial Techno mood, clanky synths and jagged melodies respond to each other over an effective bassline that is sure to ignite the dancefloor. Finally, “Drastic Pleasures” closes up this EP on a more melodic note. Deep piano chords create some kind of house vibe, while the signature heavy kick and fine percussion work are retained.
